You may purchase your horse with a seven day guarantee during which time you can have a vet check. The guarantee begins on the day you make your deposit or the day the horse is paid in full, whichever comes first. The horse can be vetted here or at your home.
The vet check must be defined and the use of the horse must be defined in writing before the purchase and the horse must be paid in full before it is moved to its new home. If a return is requested this definition will be used to determine if a return is justified for a full refund. We must receive a written report from your vet signed and stamped describing the reason for return. The vet must state that the horse is not sound for pleasure use and whether or not he has determined if this is a new problem or an old one. He must also state whether or not this condition is temporary or permanent from what he can determine in the regular course of an exam. (we may ask for x-rays at your expense) His report must also state that he has permission from you and is willing to speak to us about your exam if we need to.
If the horse is returned he must be accompanied by the health paperwork that he left with. CHF reserves the right to hold the entire return amount until the paperwork is returned.
During the seven day trial you own the horse. If there is an accident or abuse we reserve the right to refuse return on the horse. A vet check or other evaluation by both parties will be used to determine the time of injury or abuse. CHF has the right to hold payment up to 30 days in order to determine if the horse has been altered in anyway.
The seven day vet check guarantee is a 100% return guarantee as long as all of the steps are followed above. It is not a suitability guarantee.
30 Day Suitability Guarantee
If you are not happy with your horse in thirty days and there have been no changes in the horses behavior, appearance or soundness in that time that would make him unfit for the purposes that he was first purchased for then we will be happy to take him back as long as we have room for him. CHF reserves the right to extend the return policy until proper housing is available for the horse.
At the time of the return you have two choices:
Trade for another horse here that suits you.... OR......
You may return the horse on consignment. You will continue to own the horse until it sells and therefore will be responsible for all care. Board is just the cost of feed.
We will add Maine sales tax to your purchase of 5%.
Any shots or vet care beyond coggins within three years are your responsibility whether you have your own vet do them or we get our vet to do them for you.
If you purchase the horse in full or agree to a payment plan you can keep your horse here for a board fee of $150 per week.
If a payment arrangement is made CHF reserves the right to charge a late fee of $30 per month.
Trucking is $2 per loaded mile. Long hauls can be arranged.
Deposits
Deposits may be made by check, cash or credit card. You can make your cc deposit on-line by clicking here
A $100 deposit will hold the horse for one week.
Deposits are non refundable.
In some cases we will not accept deposits on horses that have not been seen and tried by a person. These are horses that have outstanding appointments in the near future, have had several people out to see them that have not made deposits but are considering them or at times of year when visitors are numerous and often show up unexpected.
A deposit will only be accepted for the following reasons. To make a decision with spouse or other person involved in a purchase. To make an appointment to see a trainer, instructor, farrier, vet or other professional. To make arrangements for transportation.
We will not accept deposits if the buyer needs to find housing for the horse, needs to come up with the agreed upon price or for undertermined decisions.
We understand that it takes time to make a decision for most people. We ask that you be ready with payment and other considerations before making a deposit. The deposit covers board for the horse for the week, lost sales opportunities that may arise during the hold period and the time and paperwork involved.

If your horse is to be picked up on a Saturday or Sunday only cashiers checks or cash will be accepted for payment. If you would like to pay by personal check please mail it to us at least seven days before the horse is to be delivered.
