This is Cricket our Newfoundland mare. We plan to purchase a new stallion in 2009 to breed to Cricket and her two daughters, True and Vista.
We will be one of the largest Newfoundland Pony breeders in the U.S. when these three mares foal.
Crickets Daily Life
Cricket spends her days in the herd on our farm. She is wonderful to our young YMCA summer camp riders, our beginner students and our visitors who enjoy our Pear's Ice Cream rides. Last fall I hitched her to some debris in the woods and she began her career as a work pony. She is quiet in traffic and large crowds. She trailers well and has no problem keeping up with the big boys out on the advanced trail rides.
I started her here under saddle two years ago and she has built a huge reputation here as the pony you can do anything with. Cricket never offered to buck or balk when she was started under saddle and we were riding her on trails with other horses within a week. I had long-lined her as part of her saddle training but just took her into the woods and hitched her. With just a few unsettled moments about the sound behind her she dragged everything out like a champ.
In addition to her regular duties Cricket was Mary's mount to Bethlehem and a wiseman's horse for the Oxford Alliance Church's annual Christmas pageant. She also did pony rides for Mayberry Hill Preschool as part of their Christmas season. She comforts many terminally ill children at Camp Sunshine every summer.
Having her here has helped us make tons of new friends and we hope that her foals will do the same for others. Click on the photos below to see larger photos.
Macosa's Dream. His name is a combination of the first two letters in each of his breeder's three children in Newfoundland.
Macosa's Daily Life
Macosa is well trained in western pleasure and started reining patterns and moves before Hattie left. Super smart, easy to ride he has gone on a few trail rides with our horses as well.
He is currently owned by and standing at Calloways in Norway, Maine.
These ponies are great for driving, showing, trail riding and pleasure of all types. Some are doing dressage and hunter in Newfoundland as well.
His oldest daughter, True, was easy to start under saddle and eager to go out with her pasture mates on trail rides. Not spooky and already goes out alone well.
